Sex and the city- Rom-com/chick flick
-It starts off with pink fonted opening credits along with girly music which immediatley signfys to the audience that its a chick flick film.
-A voice over of the main character comes on in the trailer which is a femaled american,this relates to the audience as it will mainly be aimed at females and the pink pound.It also will grab the audience that have read the books due to the fact that its like someone reading a book.
-Opening scene is a birds eye view of New York at night, the location is stereoptypically seen as glamorous,also highlights that the film has a high budget due to the filming costs of filming these particular shots
-It then goes to speeded up shots of a birds eye view of traffic in New York,which is an audio bridge as its linking whats on the screen with the narrative as Sarah Jessica parker is talking about;' things changing over time'
-A sillouette of the 4 main characters is then shown on screen which keeps the audience interested and hooked as no characters have been shown yet
-Close of SJP looking glamorous then enters on screen, the glamour signifys the fashion side of the film,shes also wearing all white to denote the pure and innocentness of the character and as she's teh first character we've seen this signifys her importance to the film
-Two shot of her two friends watching her as the photographer takes photo's-this emphasises that shes the main character
-'Gte Carried away' appears on the screen with pink writting which is a pun as SJP plays a character called Carrie Bradshaw
-A shot of a stereotypically decorated american apartment is shown in a panning view with SJP putting shoes away in her 'walk in wardrobe' this signfiys the fashion side of the film
-Fast images of SJP are shown in a wedding dress,a visual bridge is used as the transistions change as the camera is clicked by a man who's taking pictures of her, the wedding dress is also anchorage for the chick flick genre the film is.
-A long shot of all 4 girls walking down a busy New York street is used,using depth of field to blurr out people sorrounding them,the stereotypical blonde of the group is all dressed in red to conotate and symbolise sex
-The last clip is where the audience see the first male character in the trailer,it signifys romance as SJP and the couple are kissing as the camera is spinning round them and is a strong scene to end on which ties the end of the trailer nicely.The music also changes too tv show music which appeals to fans of the tv series aswell.
Saw 5-horror/thriller
-Starts off with a black screen (Black is a signifer of death) and high toned music which gives a creepy aire.
-The words flashup on the screen in a flash of light which could be a oppositional reading as it gives a religious feel to the trailer
-The music has an echo tint to it which emphasises being in a lonely place
-It then zooms in from a dark screen to someones face,this is a close up shot as its used to show the facial expression of the character, the camera is also jerky this gives the feeling that someone is coming towards the face.
-Goes to a black fade out and more words come up on the screen which builds tension
-Halloween is advertised on the screen,as this is associated with being a scary time of year its another signfier of the genre of the film
-A montage of fast clips comes onto the screen which illustrates that its a stressful situtaion and the light flashes with every new clip.
Butterfly Effect
- Cerif font comes on the screen which conotes that its a thriller
- It then shows the main character first,which signifies hes an important character, Ashton Kutcher is also well known therefore this will grab the audience.
-Black and white shots appear on the screen, this helps the audience to gather the preferred reading that the images they are seeing are in the past
- A visual bridge links past and present by an image of the same people kissing with a quick transition in the middle of the two scenes.
- Special effects are used in this trailer which could interest a younger audience,it could also conote that this may be hybrid genre film as the element of sci-fi is now on the screen.The special effects also shows that its a high budget film and stereotpyically high budget films are American as this one is.
-The main female character who up until now has been shown as a blonde stereotpyical blonde girl is now shown with a juxtaposition scene as now shes taking drugs
- A bright white light then flashes on screen which emphasisies the supernatural aspect to this film,the trailer ends advertising the website to gain a larger audience.
Slumdog Millionaire
- The voice over is a deep American males voice even though its a UK trailer
- Throughout the trailer it shows flashing images of the slums then back to the studio,these are juxtaposition shots
- Slumdog Millionaire has a hybrid genre to appeal to a larger audience,It shows the action genre within the trailer with a monatge of fast action shots along with upbeat music however a sense of romance is also conveyed as him and a girl are in many scenes looking lustfully at each other
-The name Danny Boyle is in block bold Neon lettering, this contrasts to the darker side of the narrative and shows a lighter side to the film
- A song from the 80's is also playing,this is an attempt to bring in an older audience.
- There are lots of shots within the trailer that demonstarte the culture,ethnicty and way of life of the people the film is based on,this therefore may appeal to different ethnic minorities.
Lakeview terrace Drama/thriller
-The opening credits have the colour red in-coperated into them.
-It has a birds eye view of te houses then goes to a slow zoom-the high angle on the house shows the vulnrabiltity and signfy's danger
-Black dissolves between transitions which looks like its someones eyes opening and watching the chracatreswho are on screen,fits in with the narrative as its about a stalker
-Music stops for an important line 'I just see you',this helps to highlight the signifincane of this line to the audience and helps them pick up the narrative as its only a teaser trailer
Sex Drive Comedy
-Opening line '18 and never had a girlfirend' immediatley sets the narrative up and helps the audience relate as its a BBFC rated 15 film
-Fast paced background music
-Special effects are used when a motorbike starts sparking which illustrates the filmn had a high budget,it also adds to the comical side of the film
-A popular song is used within the trailer,this again relates to the youthful audience
The Dark Knight Action/crime
-Starts off with a birds eye view of New York at night which sets a dark mood
-Music changes with every change of scene which adds emphasis to transitions
-Credits have a blue tint on them and have a cerif font
-First see the 'bad-man' with his back to the camera, the siloutte therefore helps build suspense and tension

-Female soundtrack and a long shot of a group of glamours girls gets the audience intersted as this film is aimed at females and the Pink pound
-The Housebunny is a very stereotypical blonde;she has tanned skinned,wears lots of makeup and in the trailer tries to be intelligent but cant and this is used for a comical aspect
-The credits are also in pink bubbly writting which signifies a chick-flick
-The trailer hardly focus's on men and up until the end there isnt any main male charcters introdcued
The Reader Drama/Romance
-Starts off with no production titles and cuts striaght into a scene which sets up the narrative in 7 seconds.
-Slow music is played throughout the trailer to convey a sense of romance
-There is a voice over of main chacater whilst showing clips in the past, this helps the audience to understand the transition in time
-Kissing scene are also invloved quite deeeply in the traler which involves Kate Winslet and may bring in the Male gaze theory
-Visual bridge of young boy and the man who it is now,this is done by both the charaters wearing the same colou top and reading the same book,this effectivley also shows a pass in time
The young Victoria Historical Drama
-Well spoken English accent voice over,commutation test wouldnt work here if it was a working class accent as its talking about royalty
-Costumes and props are used to help convey the time period the drama is set in
-Red carpets and talk of royalty also help with the mise-en-scene
-There are many shots of a castle-like location showing off expensive props and costumes,gives the feel that its a high budget film and therefore could be suggested that it was American produced.
Twilight Drama,romance and Horror
-Blue tint to opening credits,commonly used to signfy horror
-Two charcters in woods and creepy high picthed music which goes to a black fade out gives an 'airey' atmosphere
-Tilts from main chacters 'were-wolf' like hands upwards, leaving seconds of suspsense while the audience waits and finds out who's hands they are-Fast montage of shots with sound effects added to signfy drama and horror, shots of the woods now have a blue tint on them
-Blue writting comes on the screen with a light shining through and written in cerif font
Fish Tank Social Realism/crime
- Starts up-beat music when company name comes on and relates to a youthful audience
-Sillooutte of main character drinking voldka,signify's social realism and the siloutte add's a 'bad girl' image to the girl
-The main chacter is a stereotypical 'chav' this is connoted by her mise-en-scene;Grey tracksuit,gelled hair,gold earings and a working class London accent
-Stereotpyical teenager slamming a door,this is used for a visual bridge and goes to a black screen
-Alot of violence in the trailer and this helps to ground the genre of 'crime' for this film
-Slower music starts and the shots start to show a different side to the main character,a calmer side
500 Days of Summer Comedy/Romance
-Happy/upbeat music helps the comical atmosphere- views of New York in the day, if it had been night it would of given off a different feeling
-Quick shots and lots of quick pans to go with up-beat and happy feeling of the film
-Juxatapositions of the two main charcters joking around and then love scenes, this helps to show the Hybrid genre of the film
Body of lies Drama/horror
- Starts off with a birds eye view of a map which straight way gives the idea that someone is following someone and is a creative way of setting up the narrative
-There is also a deep masculine American voice over which ties in with the American based production company and gives a superior serious edge to the trailer
-Black and white images of people fighting and shooting are used to show the time difference as it was in the past
-A massive explosion comes on screen which generates the idea of the film being a high budget film
-Leanardo DiCaprio is a big star in this film and is in most shots yet his face isnt always so clear therefore giving the audience the chance to pick up the narrative rather than focus on the star
District 9 Sci-fi
-The trailer starts off asif its a documentary with interviews etc
-White writting on the screen turns too red as red could signfy death and blood due to the genre of the film
-Special effects are used to create a monster; this is anchorage to the Sci-fi genre
-The trailer starts off with a sunset which totally contradicts the rest of the trailer,genre and narrative

-2 main characters are first on sceen which highlights their significance to the rest of the film,is also two sucessful actors therefore will grab viewers attention
-Music is upbeat and happy,a common convention for comedies however the music stops when jokes and puns are made to help emphasise the comical aspect of the film
-When the narrative becomes clear the music changes and slower transitions are made between scenes
Obsessed Thriller/crime/drama
-Shots are jerky and you see New York asif someones watching it- this links in with the title and the music is high pitched with a variety of tones to give a 'creepy' feel
-Focus's on two characters for a whiloe without bringing Beyonce on screen, i feel this is done to give people a chance to understand the narrative,it also keeps the suspsense as too when shes going to appear
-Quick flashes between male and female characters in the toilet together,flahses used so what happens isnt given away
-When Beyonce comes on screen the music changes and the mood changes from fun and flirty to building up tension
-A heartbeat is played in the background,this helps to create tension and the heartbeat stops at a vital moment; the moment when the stalker enters beyonce's house
-A few of the clips are a juxtapoistion of the two women;both showing different aspects of their personalities
Surviellence Crime/drama/thriller
-Starts off with a close up of a dead bird- this signfy's death along with un-nerving music
-While credits are on they flicker like surviellence cameras do- this links the title
-Music changes to up-beat music and fast montage of clips come on and jokes are made- this illustrates that its a hybrid genre
-However the music starts to become scary again which ties the trailer together
Two lovers Drama/romance
-Shows main man with blonde haired girl,sets up the narrative between them and then uses juxtaposition as the man has now a few scenes with a different brown haired girl
-Music changes to classical,a signifier of romance
-Visual bridge of someone taking pictures is used to show transitions
-Up-beat music is used in a club scene where a stereotypical blonde haired girl is wearing a red dress, the red connoting sex
Changeling Thriller
-Universal production titles come on the screen to a sound of thunder to signify a storm and sets a un-happy atmosphere
-First shot of Angelina Jolie is done in a dimmed light, with an umbrella shadowing part of her face, its raining heavily and the weather is used for pathetic fallacy
-High shot of a lot of black umberellas,the high shot makes the people below look vulnerable and the amount of black on screen is a good signifier of death, it also ends in a black fade out
-Black and white flashbacks are used to show the time that has passed, a soft focus is also used in these flashbacks to enable the audience to be able to concentrate on the characters in focus properly

Pineapple express Action/comedy
-First clip is off black and white scene which says characters name and date in a block font which helps to signify the action genre of the film
-Smoking weed whilst driving, this shows that the BBFC 15 is appropriate
-Brings times up on the screen which helps to convey how time has passed within the trailer and helps the audience catch the narrative
-Un-conventional black and white font for a comedy as this is usually expected in a horror film
-The film is also coming out in Summer which supports the genre as it’s not a horror which would be expected to be brought out in winter etc
SAW V1
-Blue tint on screen and flashing lights make the audience feel tense
-Non-dijectic sound of loud machines and people screaming make effective background noise
-Uses the repetition of the number 6, this helps link the narrative together
-This films released on Halloween which is commonly known as a scary type of year and fits in with the genre

-First scene shocks the audience as it is a man with an axe and a mask on
-Quiet scenic shots with an old womans voice- car drives over camera along with fast shots,up-beat music begins and young cast members are on screen,all of this attracts the target audience (BBFC 15)
-Woods that were earlier shot as peaceful are now being shot in dark,the comutation test can be appiled here, the woods in darkness represent a spooky atmosphere
-Visual countdown of black and white numbers on screen helps to build tension
Donkey Punch
-Up-beat music with fast shots of girls getting ready to go out, the pace of the transitions shows its more of a younger audience
-A girl cuts herself whilst shaving which is a signfyier of death as you can visbly see the blood
-Yorkshire accents are present which could indicate a regional following
-Bright lighting is used to cut between transitions which fits in with the setting as their on holiday in Ibiza which is a sunny holiday destination
-Sound effect of the voices echoing helps to convey the sense that the charcters have taken drugs
-Constantly uses black fade outs and dissolves with a soft focus to block our mise-en-scene and help audience focus
-Juxtaposition of boat at night where before was in daylight shows contrast in mood from the beginning of the trailer when it was a happy atmosphere to now where danger is close

-Zooms in on a house at a high angle which makes the hopuse look vulnerable, high pitched music is also used at this point
-Shots of a woman being arrested are used in slow motion which emphasises the distressing scene along with music
-Narrative is told every couple of shots with short sentences appearing on a black background

-First shot of girl and boy in bed in underwear, this is a signifier of the BBFC rating of 15 that the. The black and white couple are a stereotypical un-conventional couple this sets the social realism side of the film and also brings in different ethnic minorities backgrounds.
-W/c accents of girl speaking help with the mise-en-scene
-Urban up-beat music is played-commutation test- the music wouldn’t work for anything other than a social realist film for example a comedy film would clash
-Binary opposition of white man in a suit in contrast to a black man in a tracksuit with his hood up
- Fast cut shots including violence- help anchorage for the crime aspect of this film
-Lots of night time shots which suggest violence and crime

-Scenes of a male character being drunk at a party, this sets the scene for the misfortune that’s about to happen when the male falls down the stairs
-Up-beat music is played along with a twist when the audience finds out that the previous scenes were in the past
-Lots of girls in Bikini’s will bring in the male gaze theory as well as the narrative being based around the playboy mansion
Is anybody there social realism/drama
-Can tell it’s set in England due to accents of cast members, it’s also shown through the mise-en-scene as the family are sat down having a Christmas meal it’s a typical British family due to the party hats their wearing and big Woolley jumpers
-For a wider audience due to the two main characters being a young boy and Michael Caine
-It introduces the stars within the trailer and reviews which could suggest that it’s a film trailer and not a teaser trailer
Researching all the different types of film genres has been very useful to me as certain aspects of a trailer have kept cropping up which could indicate that me and my group should add this into our trailer for it to be sucessful. The music within the film trailer is extremely important and takes control of the whole trailer, from the trailers ive viewed that the music does and arc, from example a slow song with slow shots to a faster song wioth faster shots and goes back to the slow song and shot types. This enables the producer to use many different shot types within the trailer.Many trailers also used dimmed lighting and if it was aimed at a younger audience there tended to be alot of fast cuts and up-beat music.
