Rough cuts and testing shots
Whilst filming this clip, the weather conditions werent ideal, we had to film in heavy rain and therefore were unable to use the boom mic which means the sound in this particular shot is disappointing. We therefore had too re-shoot once the rain had calm down and have used music over the top within the trailer too get rid of the ambient sound.
For this clip we wanted to conote that the girl was getting undressed which stereotypically usually happens, however as we are challenging this certain code and convention of media text, the girl in this situation is the powerful one and therefore undressing the boy. So we chose a ducth angle for this shot and started with the clothes going through the air, however after watching and audience feedback we found that it was a more successful shot if the camera was positioned so the floor was in view and therefore the audience could tell more clearly that the items being thrown across the shots were actually clothes.
This clip of the main protagonist was shot too give the audience more mise-en scene, however we decided not too use this as it was a teaser trailer we were very aware of time limits and found that the other clips were more suitable and more inter-textual references could be used to donkey punch rather than this clip. However it did use a different camera angle and if we had the time would of been a nicely framed clip to use.
This clip took many takes too get right and this was one of the off cuts, the main protagonist had too be-careful not too actually hit the actress but we also needed it too be realistic, most of the clips got edited too short but however in the one used in the final film trailer we decided to put a slow motion effect on to make the clip longer and let the audience grasp a sense of what had happened.
When testing out different shots for this killing we found that we liked the idea that the killing was from behind the protagonist as it linked in with the narrative enigma of the trailer. However the framing in this particular shot wasn't right as the main protagonist head covered most of the clip so for the clip used we changed the position the cameraman was stood to get a more clear angle which you are able too see the weapon she is killed by, a knife, more clearly as we are using inter-textual reference too scream and using the knife as phallic object.
For the final killing we found getting the shots right and had many rough cuts, this being one of them. We ended up in the trailer having short clips linking the killing together which we found gave the best effect however whilst experimenting with the camera we were going too have the killing so the audience could see exactly what happened but after watching the clip back we found it was obvious who the killer was and took away a lot of narrative enigma from the trailer itself.
