Casting

We found casting one of the challenging bits of doing the media production as we had too rely strongly on people who were giving up other commitments too help us out. We did overcome a problem when the our main boy character in the first shots couldn't continue when we needed too do re-shoots. However we soon found someone else, I was glad too re-shoot the shots we had already done as from our audience feedback it was apparent that we needed more shot variety, with the re-shoot this was possible.


Lucy is the main female protagonist and also a group member therefore we thought she would be a reliable person too count on and is easy too get hold of if re-shoots were needed. We decided too go with the stereotype of a brown haired strong girl, (final girl) similar too Laurie strode from John Capenters Halloween.However within the film trailer it is un-clear what lucy's actual role is as we wanted too imply narrative enigma. Lucy represents a modern day middle class teenager which fits into the narrative well and will hopefully drag in our target audience of 15-24 year olds. Lucy is also a good choice for this as we found it easy too make her look different,for example she can look innocent looking in one scene and yet in another look evil, this was vital as in our trailer we want too be able too show both sides. If Lucy was too have blonde hair and be seen to be 'sexually available' then this would go against our preferred reading and give the audience a different idea too what we wanted them too pick up from our teaser trailer. As we have many intertextual references too Donkey Punch i would compare Lucy too Nichola Burley who plays 'tammy' as shes seen too be a quiet character at first who gets the least attention off the opposite sex.

This is Theo, our main male character after changing from our original main male character Sam. We thought Theo suitable for the role as he was tall, dark haired and stereotypically well dressed for a teenager of his age. Theo is also a suspect killer within the trailer and therefore couldn't look so innocent as too give it away who actually the killer was (Lucy). If we applied the commutation test here, Theo being fair skinned and blonde hair with younger features and clothing, the audience may pick up the oppositional reading of his character. His character is a 'Jack the lad' type.

Here we have the rest of the cast. Starting from left too right is Eirian who gets killed by a wine bottle in the trailer. In the trailer eirian is seen to be wearing a short skirt and alot of makeup. I decided that all the blonde haired girls should be portrayed as 'tarts' as it would give the killer Lucy, a brown haired girl more motivation as she could be jealous. The next girl is Fran who gets killed in the shower,here again we have a scene where it appears too be that the blonde haired girl isn't wearing anything.Lastly is Sophie,Sophie is Lucy's friend whilst getting ready and is seen too be a stereotypical blonde haired girl in a horror film.From researching the genre of horror it is seen that blonde haired girls die first, which is what happens within our film,mostly they are seen to be 'sexually available'. In Donkey Punch which can be related too our film on many levels the blonde one is represented as the most glamorous one yet dies first.

I would compare Sophie (who is on the far left in the picture above) with Drew Barrymore in scream as she dies but also as Sophie knows her killer like Drew recognises hers.

I would compre the girl second in from the right with Janet Leigh in Physco as both blondes get killed in the shower.

I feel that our shooting asked alot of the cast members, particularly Fran who had too do a shower scene, however through careful positioning of the camera she is infact wearing a bikini yet looks naked too the audience.

All the cast members have a Yorkshire Dialect and although we are aware that this may narrow our target audience gap it also could widen it due too Yorkshire and the surrounding area's wanting too watch the film and support it. Donkey Punch similarly has cast from Leeds yet has done well for itself by the regional following.I dont feel that we are follwoing Yorkshire stereotypes as the locations arent rural and dont involve lots of countryside which is normally associated with Yorkshire.Although our production doesnt involve any ethnic miniorities we still hope too drag in that audience by basing it on activities that all teenagers do.We were lucky that our actors didint have too act older than they were as i feel if this would of happened it would of made our production un-realistic and we would of struggled too get the audience too relate too the characters.
