After researching film magazines i decided too look into 'Empire' into further detail as it seemed a more popular choice and included big stars on their front cover on each issue therefore i may be able too take some features of this sucessful magazine and put it into my magazine. Empire is a British film magazine punblished monthly by Bauer Consumer Media.Its first issue was in July 1989 and although each issue covers different aspects of film it has some common features which can be found in each issue such as;
Each issue features a Classic Scene, a transcript from a notable film scene.
The regular Top 10 feature lists Empire's choice of the top ten examples of something film-related.
Pint of Milk presents celebrities' answers to silly or unusual questions, including the question "How much is a pint of milk?" This is intended as a guide to the Chosen Celebrity's contact with reality, and as such can be more informative than a direct interview, often reporting some surprising responses.
Each magazine includes a "Spine Quote", in which a relatively challenging quote is printed on the spine of the magazine.
Empire also has a very sucessful website,http://www.empireonline.com/, this helps to keep fans updated, gains them extra publicity and is a great way of finding out audience feedback therfore they can improve the magazine, this is done by such things as quizzes and poles.

This partiular film magazine cover was voted the best cover on the Empire website from the readers of all time.I thought this was un-usual as it goes against all the codes and conventions of a normal film magazine front cover. Yet it shows that Darth Vader had a massive fanbase already that a picture was all that was needed too drag the readers attention.
I thought this partiucular film magazine cover was un-usual as it involves the cast of Oceans 12 yet they arent in costume. I would like this idea for my magazine front cover and will be modelling it on some of the ideas of this partiuclar issue.
Fangoria is an internationally-distributed US film magazine specializing in the genres of horror , slasher, splatter and exploitation films, in regular publication since 1979 and issued on a monthly basis.The first issue of Fangoria was entirely designed around the original "fantasy film" concept for the magazine,however by the 4th issues this was failing miserably,they were losing approximately $20,000 per issue. Robert "Bob" Martin was the ediotor hired and senior employees and the two owners of the publishing firm stood back and allowed the young editor to take the lead, reshaping the entire book according to what he believed would work.By issue 12 the formula was well set and remains largely un changed as the magazine gew in popularity.
I researched Fangoria thoroughly aswell as although its fan base isnt as big as Empire it specialises in Horror films which may magazine will be doing.However similalrliy too Empire Fangoria also has a website and has made its own films before such as 'Children of the night'.Fangoria has also been promoted in many media outlets such as
“Debbie" (Tracie Savage) reads an issue of Fangoria shortly before her death in Friday 13th 3- D(1982).
The film Brainscan (1994) prominently features Fangoria, giving the magazine a rather important role in the movie. It is through an advertisement in the magazine that the main character discovers the titular video game.
In the 2007 film Death Proof, an issue of Fangoria is displayed in a magazine rack at a convenience store.
Fangoria originally set up a TV network television station which was dediated too horros however this has now become a online format. Fangoria has also got its own radio station which airs on a Friday night in America and is a horror themed radio talk programe.

From researching magazines i have found that colour is used too attract the readers attention and too make it stand out on the magazine shelf. A variety of fonts have also been used too 'liven' up the front cover. It is common for the main feature of the magazine too be centre of the magazine cover, the standard price for a film magazine is on average 3/4 pounds and they come out in monthly issues.The front cover includes snippets of what the magazine included too gain the readers interest such as '13 horrific new previews!Over 100 pages!'. The masthead of the cover is always at the top of the page with usually a tagline underneath.
