Final Proposal

Me and Lucy decided too work together after discussing our initial ideas with a variety of people we decided that we could interlink individual ideas from our initial idea and put it together too make one. I was happy too work with Lucy as i felt she was reliable and we both have different strengths that could help us along the way. Both of our initial ideas were based on the genre of horror therefore when considering our final proposal this was an obvious choice, it is also a genre we had both done in our AS coursework and therefore felt comfortable with the basics of the genre yet needed alot more thorough research too make this particular production a success.Lucy was also happy too act within the trailer itself which made it easier when we wanted too test out shots before gathering the full cast too shoot it properly.

We decided too make our trailer have a British Board of Classification aged 15 after researching this from their website http://www.bbfc.co.uk/, anything younger such as a 12 or 12A would of been inappropriate due to the language,context of the trailer and scenes of a sexual nature (more detail on this can be found in the target audience post). We thought specifically about the language chosen as too make it a 15 or 18 but decided too get a wider target audience and keep it as a 15.

The opening shots are of the main protagonist (brown haired attractive female) and a blonde haired 'sexually available' female getting ready too go out.These are shown by fast clips of the girls putting lipstick and mascara on and also seen to be drinking alcohol.Conversation is exchanged between the girls where the main protagonist is shown too be a counter type of her brown haired role in a horror movie and acts 'sexually available' herself by saying 'i dont who too chose john,james or edward', too which the blonde haired girl shallowly replys 'well james has a nice car'. Just by these short dialogues the audience is made aware that the brown haired girl is extremely boy orientated and the blonde haired girl is living upto her stereotypical bimbo character; through research we found this is how blonde haired women are usually represented in horror films and are more likely to die first.The two girls then go out too a bar where the blonde haired girl is meeting a boy, this is an un-stereotypical code and convention as usually the blonde haired girl is expected too be single and acts in a 'slaggy' way.The boy also has a friend for the brown haired girl and the next couple of shots are of the four-some coupling off, having a good time and drinking.However these scenes are mainly focused on the main protagonist and the second boy as these two are going too be the main characters. There will be music playing over these clips of the girl and boy drinking and laughing however it will suddenly stop when the girl says to the boy 'so are we going to get a taxi back to mine then'. The music will then change in tone from a happy, up-beat techno piece of music too a more high pitched 'spooky' music. The next scene will be of the boy and a girl in the back of a car (which will be posed as a taxi) kissing however the girl un-stereotypically is in control of this situation and the boy pushes her off and says 'can we just wait till we get back to yours'. The next scene is of the camera being positioned on a dutch angle and clothes being thrown onto the floor, which you suspect would be the girls clothes yet the camera gets turned and the boy is what appears too be naked in the bed, (hit tops off and his trousers are hidden by the duvet) and the main protagonist fully dressed sat on top of him.

The two characters are kissing however when the camera focus's on them, the boy once again pushes the girl off and says 'just stop'. The next scene is of a close up of the girl looking sad with an audio put over the top of the boy going ' I just like someone else'. The main protagonist is therefore embarrassed of how she has thrown herself onto the boy and been rejected as well as the fact that the girls that he likes as she is unsure as too who he exactly likes have all got blonde hair, this increases her jealousy and gives her enough motivation for her too want too act up on it. In the next scene the main protagonist is seen to be holding a picture of 3 blonde girls, again an audio is used over the top of a un-known voice saying 'do you know which one he likes yet?' the main protagonist replys 'no, not yet'. This gives the audience some anchorage for the next scenes as too why the protagonist kills 3 girls as she is un-sure of which girl he actually likes.

The killings of the three girls we thought very carefully about as we wanted them too be female objects too go with the un-conventional aspect that its a female killer. The first killing is done by a red hair dryer whilst one of the girls is drying her hair, the second is killed in the shower (this scene will have too include the girl wearing a bikini yet it has too look like shes naked) and the third killing is of a girl being hit over the head with a smashed wine bottle. The trailer ends with a 'scary looking' (by the use of makeup) main protagonist, she had blood on her yet it is un-clear whether it is her blood as shes been attacked or whether its the other 3 girls blood and she is the killer.

Too give the main protagonist more of a motive too want revenge on the boy at the beginning of the trailer we were going too have a black and white flashback of when the main protagonist was younger watching domestic violence happen between her parents, therefore when she gets rejected by a boy she doesn't take it mentally the same as somebody else. However we decided that this didn't need to be shown as the main protagonist we felt had enough motive and would of been a very sensitive issue too cover as well as having difficulty trying too find actors too film it.

Revised after audience feedback

We decided that our narrative could become clearer to the audience as after audience feedback we found it was slightly misleading. We are going too keep the clips of the girls getting ready, although were going too add a clip of the girls putting a CD on, the music will then start when the CD goes in rather then being played from the beginning. We have decided too start with a clip of the main protagonist shaving her leg yet cutting herself, this immediately is a signifier of blood and death, which helps anchor the genre of the film yet also has intertextual reference too Donkey Punch. Instead of the conversation between the two girls too establish that the main protagonist is a 'sexually available' and 'male orientated' female, we have decided too include a shot of her going through clothes too wear and saying too herself, 'is this too slaggy?..who am i kidding anyway?!'.

We have also changed the bar scenes as we felt it linked the boy and the three victims better rather than the photograph idea. The main protagonist and the blonde haired girl walk into the bar where the main male character is sat having a drink with the two other victims.Everyone is having a laugh apart from the main protagonist who feels really left out and doesn't get spoken too until everyone has too go and the boy is now stuck with her alone. The three blonde haired girls leave by saying too each other 'Nathans having a party tonight do you want too come?', the male character then says 'well what am i going too do', the main protagonist replies 'ill stay'.Therefore we got rid of the scene of the main protagonist looking at the picture of the three blondes as the bar scenes matched the blondes to the main male character effectively anyway.Whilst the group are at the bar they ask the main protagonist too take a picture of them as she's the one know ones really bothered about being in it, this picture is then going to be intercut between the killings, as each victim dies they are going too get cut out of the picture. We have also added a shot of the main protagonist and boy walking up to the taxi too add anchorage too the scene.

Through the feedback we learnt that the killing with the hair dryer had alot of weak points, we decided too completely get rid of that scene as we also felt as a group it gave away who the killer was too obviously. Instead we added scenes of the camera walking up to the door, victim three answering the door as if she knows the person, the next shot is of victim three crouched over saying 'why you doing this?'.This gives better narrative enigma too the trailer as its the last killing before the 'scary' shot of the main protagonist.

I saw the main challenges with this narrative surrounding the actors.It was hard too get the actors too agree to do the scenes that were needed (especially the shower scenes), as they aren't professional actors we had too do alot of re-takes too such problems as the actors were laughing or had forgotten what too do. I also found it hard to arrange for the costumes that they were wearing too be worn again as different items were borrowed of different people however with doing re-shoots everybody needed too look the same as they did in the previous shoots and this was an important factor in achieving a realistic teaser trailer. If i was too do the production again I would draw a plan of how each individual character should look like and give it too the actor before the day of shooting so they have a similar idea in their head and we don't need too waste time explaining it again.

If we had a bigger budget this problem would be easily overcome. We would be able too hire professional actors who can get into the role of a character easily and stay focused. The costume issues would also be fixed, as a company we would have the funds too be able to buy our own wardrobe therefore the clothes that we needed would be there every time we needed them in exactly the same condition as we left them.Bigger budget films also have great special effects such as the Batman films, our killings would look alot more realistic as we could afford too have trained makeup artists; if we had a big budget then stunt doubles would be available which will also add too the realisity of the killings.
The inspirations for the idea came from a mixture of both mine and Lucy's initial ideas. However through researching different horror films.We found that some films we were able too use intertextual reference's too. Donkey Punch is one of our main inspiration's as its a low budget regional film (characters from leeds) which involves characters in their early twenties and plenty of drinking.We got such ideas as Lucy cutting her leg and the idea of a picture of the whole cast on the poster both from Donkey Punch. The newly released Fish tank also gave us some inspiration with the use of techno music and voldka in the background of most scenes of the main character getting ready too go out. The idea of the final killing where the victim knows the killer has taken inspiration from Scream as Drew Barrymore recognises her killer. I feel our production has alot too offer potential investors,it has been produced by two females which may encourage other females too watch the film too support this.The leading killer is also a female therefore it represents women too be strong and powerful, which some female audiences may appreciate along with certain feminist movements. However i would pitch too potential film investors that as well as a strong female audience it could drag in, which is un-common when the film includes many attractive women. The aspect that their is attractive women in may appeal too men as well,going by the 'male gaze theory'. It would also have a large fan base of regional Yorkshire fans as they may want too support something local too them.

Our tagline for the productions is; 'There's a thin line between Heaven and Hell'
